Aneeshea Cason (she/her), Spring 2023
Biomedical Sciences and Sociology
Studied abroad in Florence, Italy
Aneeshea Cason is a senior graduating with dual degrees in Biomedical Sciences and
Sociology on a pre-med track. Aneeshea is from Loxahatchee, Florida, and has been
a
proud member of the Honors College, STEM Academy, National Merit Scholars, and Phi
Delta Epsilon since Fall 2019. She currently serves as the USF Chemistry Society Tutoring
Coordinator, volunteers for Moffitt Cancer Center, and is co-first author on a research
article under Dr. Heller's Molecular Electrotransfer Lab, among other activities.
After graduating from USF, Aneeshea plans to attain a Masters of Science in Pharmaceutical
Nanotechnology before going on to pursue a M.D. degree with a focus
on pediatric cardiovascular surgery.
Ariadne Herrera (they/them), Spring 2024
Psychology and English with a Creative Writing Concentration
Attended Johns Hopkins Richard Macksey National Undergraduate Research
Symposium in Baltimore, MD
Ariadne (Ari) Herrera is a junior majoring in Psychology and English with a Creative
Writing Concentration. Ari is published writer and filmmaker whose work explores social
identities through community-based, interdisciplinary storytelling. Their recent work
includes creative scriptwriting for nationally-recognized chatbot research projects,
video
marketing, & admissions essay reading for the Judy Genshaft Honors College. They are
also an editor for USF’s undergraduate literary magazine and Vice President of the
Creative Writer’s Club. After graduating from USF, Ari hopes to pursue a Master’s
of
Fine Arts in Creative Writing.
Caitlyn Coleman (she/her), May 2023
Microbiology, Infection Control Minor
Featured Student Speaker
Caitlyn Coleman is a Judy Genshaft Honors College student majoring in Microbiology
with a minor in Infection Control. She is from Clearwater, Florida and will be graduating
this Spring. She has been involved in undergraduate research since her first semester
at USF and was awarded the Barry Goldwater Scholarship in recognition of her scientific
contributions. Her campus involvement includes the Dean’s Student Leadership Society,
the Order of the Golden Brahman, and the Scientific Research Honor Society Sigma Xi.
Following graduation, she plans to apply to Microbiology PhD
programs with the ultimate goal of teaching and mentoring students as a professor.
Dan Nguyen (he/him), Spring 2023
Medical Conc. Biology & Psychology

Dan Nguyen is a junior dual majoring in Medical Conc. Biology & Psychology. He is
from Punta Gorda, Florida and a first generation student with roots from Vietnam.
Dan has been active within the Dean's Student Leadership Society since Spring 2021
and
serves as the VP of Standards. Dan Nguyen has also held executive board positions
in organizations such as Asian Students in America USF, the Lotus Flower Project,
and Foundation of International Medical Relief for Children. Dan is working in two
research labs that focus on cardiology and Subjective Opacity theory. After graduating
USF, Dan intends to pursue medical school.
Dane Clarke (he/him), Spring 2023
English with a concentration in creative writing and a minor in film and new media
studies.
Featured Speaker
Dane Clarke is a Dean’s List Scholar student studying English and Film and New Media
studies. He is involved in the English Honors Thesis Program, a member of Sigma Tau
Delta and a recent participant of the Richard Macksey Undergraduate Research
Symposium at John Hopkins University. Dane is a Senior and plans to move back to California
after graduation to break into the screenwriting and film industry.
Derick Detellem (he/him), Fall 2024
Applied Physics
Studied Abroad in Tanzania
Derick DeTellem is a 3rd year PhD student in Applied Physics. Derick is from Dade City, Florida, and has spent time in Botswana and Tanzania, developing hybrid renewable energy sources for rural Africa. In his free time, Derick likes to go kayaking and hiking. After receiving his PhD, Derick hopes to continue towards becoming an established researcher in the field of spintronics.
Duong Nguyen, Spring 2024

Duong Nguyen is a junior majoring in psychology. Duong is from Orlando, FL and has been with the Dean's student Leadership Society since 2022. On campus, Duong is growing into the role of Vice President of recruitment for DSLS, and the Director of development for the American Marketing Association chapter at USF. Additionally, Duong enjoys ceramics at the Muddy Buddies club and going to plays to supporting her friends. Duong is currently looking to get into I-O psychology research and after graduating from USF, Duong hopes to pursue a Masters in I-O psychology to become a people analyst.
Dylanis Lopez Ruiz (she/her), Fall 2023
Biomedical Sciences, Psychology Minor

Dylanis Lopez Ruiz is a junior majoring Biomedical Sciences and minoring in
Psychology. She was born and raised in Hatillo, Puerto Rico. She plans to attend medical
school in the Fall of 2024 as she aims to become a psychiatrist in the future.
She is the current VP of Member and Alumni Engagement of the College of Arts and Sciences’
Dean’s Student Leadership Society. In addition, she is a part of the Substance Misuse
and Addictions Research Traineeship (SMART Lab) which is led by
her mentor Dr. Micah E. Johnson. With the SMART Lab, Dylanis is studying the effects
of school exclusion disciplines (suspension and expulsion) on the opioid misuse of
Justice-Involved Adolescents. She is also part of the Bull Raisers, USF’s Student
Philanthropy committee led by Dr. LaToya Wider. During her free time, she enjoys reading,
creative writing and quality time with her loved ones.
Esther Marcuello Garcia (she/her), Spring 2026
Cell and Molecular Biology

Esther Marcuello Garcia is a freshman majoring in Cell and Molecular Biology and pursuing
a minor in Healthcare Administration. Esther is from Madrid, Spain, and is a new member
of the Dean's Student Leadership Society. Esther is passionate about
sports, being a volleyball player and Madrid's Champion in javelin throw. After graduating
from USF, Esther hopes to pursue a Master's Degree or PhD on genetics.
Gabrielle Whyte (she/her), Summer 2025
Humanities and Cultural Studies, Film and New Media, Political Science minor
Attended Richard Macksey Undergraduate Humanities Symposium in Baltimore,
Maryland (featured in study abroad)
Gabrielle Whyte is a sophomore majoring in Humanities and Cultural Studies with a
concentration in Film and New Media Studies and a minor in Political Science. She
is also on the pre-law track and is an international student, born in Antigua and
Barbuda.
After graduating from USF, Gabrielle hopes to pursue an education in entertainment
law and business as well as a professional career as a (screen)writer, producer, and
creative director of film and other media products. She has presented at research
conferences on both the local and national scale and has been accepted for publication
in a peer reviewed journal. She grew to love research as a way of fueling her creative
endeavors, with her ultimate goal being to found her own media production company
whose focus is accurate and ethical representation of historically underrepresented
or
misrepresented communities and the amplification of oppressed stories and voices.
Jonathan Rodriguez (he/him) Applied Anthropology PhD
Featured Graduate Student Speaker
Jonathan Rodriguez is a first-generation Puerto Rican PhD student veteran in the Applied Anthropology program at USF. As a historical archaeologist his research explores terrestrial and maritime maroons who resisted enslavement and colonialism in the Caribbean. He aims to understand the history and heritage of maroons in Dominica to help educate teachers, students, and the public on the experiences of these underrepresented communities. Jonathan received an M.A. in History with a concentration in Digital Humanities and a B.A. in History with a minor in Anthropology from the University of South Florida. Prior to enrolling at the university, Jonathan served six years as an infantryman in the United States Army with two combat deployments to Afghanistan.
Kaitlyn Schoel (she/her), Fall 2023
Advertising and Marketing
Studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain
Kaitlyn Schoel is a first-semester graduate student in the MSM in Marketing program at USF. Kaitlyn is from Ocala, FL and completed her undergraduate degree at USF in August of last year, graduating with a B.S. in Business Advertising. Her future career aspiration is to be a freelance branding consultant and digital marketer. Outside of school, Kaitlyn is a waitress and bartender at Outback Steakhouse, and recently accepted a promotion to assistant manager. In her free time, Kaitlyn enjoys playing video games, going to the beach, cooking, and learning new chess strategies with her boyfriend.
Kal Demerew (he/him), May 2023
Politics & International Affairs PhD

Kal Demerew is a fourth-year PhD Candidate in the USF School of Interdisciplinary
Global Studies. His research examines the effects of elite contentions and violence
on
institutions, state-building and political development, as well as the intersections
between state-building and external constraints. He has published his work in prominent
peer-reviewed journals such as Third World Quarterly, and is currently an Adam Smith
Fellow at George Mason University's Mercatus Center.
Lauren Flannery (she/her), May 2023
Enviromental Science and Policy
Featured Student Speaker
Lauren Flannery is a senior majoring in environmental science and policy. She is from
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and has been with the Dean's Student Leadership Society
since 2022. On campus, she works as a student assistant at the Education Abroad
Office, and is currently working on a research project in her class, Environmental
Field Methods in St. Petersburg. After graduating from USF, Lauren hopes to work in
wildlife
conservation.
Lissany “Lissy” Estevez (she/her), graduated Summer 2022 returning Fall 2023 for graduate program Communications
Featured Student Speaker
Lisanny “Lissy” Estevez is a former USF student with a Communication major and a Mass
Communications minor. Lissy is from Santiago, Dominican Republic, she has studied
abroad twice and was awarded the Benjamin A. Scholarship. Lissy is a member
of the National Communication Association Honorary Society (Lambda Pi Eta). She has
participated in different activities at USF, including the iBuddy program. Lissy will
be
attending graduate school at USF for the Fall 2023 where she will be doing the Vinik
Sport and Entertainment Management program. Additionally, Lissy enjoys traveling,
baseball, and fashion. Her end goal is to work in the sport business industry.
Makayla Long (she/her), May 2023
Integrative Animal Biology, Psychology minor
Studied abroad in Galapagos Islands, Ecuador
Makayla Long is a Tampa native and a senior majoring in Integrative Animal Biology
with a minor in Psychology on a pre-vet track. On campus, Makayla has been a member
of the Dean’s Student Leadership Society and Secretary of the Pre-Veterinary
Society since Fall 2021. She has also volunteered at the Kramer Freshwater Ecology
Lab since Summer 2022 and has worked on some research projects involving freshwater
zooplankton. After graduating from USF, Makayla plans to take a gap year to apply
to veterinary school and is currently interested in learning more about large animal
and exotic/zoo animal medicine.
Michael Youssef (he/him), Spring 2025
Biochemistry, Nutrition minor

Michael Youssef is a sophomore studying chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry
as well as a minor in nutrition. He currently works as a medical assistant and is
starting research at USF Health. He is working toward going to medical school after
undergrad. Michaelis originally from Alexandria, Egypt and he immigrated to the United
States at a young age. Being heavily involved in service through St. Luke's Clinic
and SALT (Serve and Love Together) which has allowed Michael to grow into the leader
he is today. Michael hopes to be an inspiration to other immigrant children and people
of color to strive and be resilient through all the difficult challenges that they
may
encounter. Michael would like to thank his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for granting
him the many blessings to be successful and set an example of Him He would also like
to thank his family for supporting him every step of the way."
Mridula Singh (she/her), Spring 2024

Mridula Singh is a junior double majoring in Psychology and Biomedical Sciences. Mridula
is from Valrico, Florida, with roots in India. She is a member of the Dean’s Student
Leadership Society and is involved with the Honors College, the Center for Student
Involvement, and Phi Delta Epsilon. Additionally, Mridula enjoys photography, tennis,
boxing, playing the violin, and painting. After graduating from USF, Mridula
hopes to attend medical school and pursue an MD/PhD degree focusing on neuroscience.
Natalie AmRhein (she/her), Spring 2025
Environmental Science and Biology
Studied abroad in Exeter, United Kingdom
Natalie AmRhein is a second-year National Merit student at USF studying both Environmental Science and Biology on the pre-medicine track from Fort Collins, CO. She is currently a member of many student organizations such as Dean’s Student Leadership Society, Phi Delta Epsilon, and the founding president of a new Honors research organization called the Raven’s Guild. In addition to this, Natalie is a member of Dr. Alfredo's research lab on water contaminants and resulting health indexes. During Spring 2022, Natalie studied abroad for a semester at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom through the Honors College and is an alumni of University of Exeter's Grand Challenges program. She also is involved heavily with her passion of the outdoors through being an adventure trip leader at USF’s outdoor recreation program with her Wilderness First Responder certification. Natalie recently went on the Honor’s Puerto Rico Service Adventure as staff.
Neha Dantuluri (she/her), Spring 2024

Neha Dantuluri is a junior majoring in Biomedical Science and Information Science on the pre-medical track. Neha is from Tampa with roots in South India. She is an active volunteer with USF's Center for Victim Advocacy and Violence Prevention, a recipient of the Genshaft-Greenbaum Global Explorer Award, and a co-director of BRIDGE, an equal-access clinic at USF's Carol and Frank Morsani Center. After graduating from USF, Neha hopes to attend medical school and work with global communities.
Rachel Sanderson (she/her), 2025
History PhD
Featured Graduate Student Speaker
Rachel L. Sanderson serves as the Associate Director of La Florida: The Interactive
Digital Archive of the Americas, a position she has held since the project's inception
in
2016. She earned a BFA from the University of Tampa and a BA in History. In 2017,
Sanderson graduated with an MLA in Florida Studies from the University of South Florida,
St. Petersburg. Her thesis project focused on the lives of two noble women in
sixteenth-century Florida, one a young Spanish woman and one a young Indian chief.
Sanderson has presented her research at dozens of national and international conferences.
After working in the field for five years, Sanderson was admitted into the
Ph.D. program in History at the University of South Florida. In her first year in
the doctoral program, Sanderson was one of just eight graduate students selected to
participate in the prestigious Spanish Colonial Borderlands workshop, sponsored by
The Huntington Library in San Marino, California. In 2022, Sanderson received the
Leland Hawes Essay prize for the best paper in Florida studies and presented her work
at the Seminario Perspectivas de Género para la Investigación Actual hosted by the
Universidad Pablo de Olavide in Seville, Spain. In 2023, Sanderson was selected as
a Fulbright semi-finalist and invited by the National Geographic Society to apply
for a National Geographic Fellowship. In the spring of 2023, Sanderson moved to candidacy,
successfully completing her comprehensive exams “with distinction.”
Zaynab Ali-Salahuddi (she/her), 2024
Africana Studies with minor in Political Science and certificate in Business
Studied abroad in Cape Town, Africa
Zaynab is on her 3rd year of college here at The University of South Florida and continues
to work as a magazine editor for the USF Strike Magazine. In addition to being a full-time
student she is a student assistant for the Office of Multicultural Affairs
and a Sales Associate at Nordstrom. Zaynab is a Black Leadership Network Scholar,
IFYC Faith in the vaccine Ambassador, and was recently selected to be the Black Girls
Rock/Big Hat Brunch membership chair for the National Council of Negro Women.
