LEADERSHIP DISCOURSE IN RESPONSE TO COVID CRISIS: ANALYSIS ANDREW CUOMO'S PRESS BRIEFINGS

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, people around the globe are looking to their political leaders for both information as well as guidance. In the United States, New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, is being widely praised by the mass media and laypeople alike for standing out as a great leader in this time of uncertainty and adversity.

University of South Florida (USF) Media Linguist in the Department of World Languages, Professor Camilla Vásquez, has been studying dozens of Cuomo’s press briefings since early March.

Vásquez has identified several features of Cuomo’s communication style that contribute to his effective leadership in the face of crisis.She discusses her findings in this video lecture recorded as a teaching resource for the Association for Business Communication.
