Steve Wilson, Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of South Florida and affiliated scientist with the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University, recently received the 2021 Mark L. Knapp Award in Interpersonal Communication from the National Communication Association (NCA).

Given annually, the award honors career contributions to the study of interpersonal communication and recognizes individuals who have made significant scholarly contributions to the study of interaction and/or relational processes. Dr. Wilson is prolific, productive, and programmatic and has blazed a trail for scholars of interpersonal influence, identity, intercultural interactions, and both marginalized and military families. Wilson’s diverse scholarship explores interpersonal communication in myriad contexts, advancing both theory and research and applying those to socially significant topics. Wilson’s research on interpersonal influence is required reading for the field of interpersonal communication. Wilson also serves the discipline in a variety of ways including mentoring new scholars, supervising numerous award-winning dissertations, and, more recently, co-founding the Communication and Military Division.

“NCA’s annual awards honor Communication scholars’ teaching, scholarship, and service,” NCA Interim Executive Director Linda Taliaferro, CAE, said. “NCA is proud to recognize Dr. Wilson’s significant contributions to the Communication discipline with this award.”

Dr. Wilson’s award was presented on November 20 at the NCA 107th Annual Convention in Seattle, WA. For more information about NCA’s awards program, visit their website.
