ZIMMERMAN SCHOOL SENIOR INSTRUCTOR EARNS ENDOWED PROFESSORSHIP

Wayne Garcia, a Senior Instructor in the Zimmerman School of Advertising & Mass Communications at USF, was recently named the James A. Clendinen Professor in Editorial and Critical Writing in the Zimmerman School, effective immediately for a two-year term.

This professorship honors James Clendinen, who served as an editor of the Tampa Tribune and chairman of the editorial board. The endowed fund was designed to support education and training in editorial and critical writing.

As the Clendinen Professor, Garcia will teach a critical writing course; organize an annual Clendinen Lecture and master class for students; and create a public exhibit about James Clendinen’s life and work, allowing Zimmerman School students and others to see the contributions Mr. Clendinen made to journalism – especially in the Tampa Bay area. Wayne will also work with the USF Library Special Collections to catalog Mr. Clendinen's personal and professional effects, which are currently housed in the Zimmerman School. He also will support student participation in editorial and critical writing workshops and conferences.
