CAS faculty cited in President Biden’s economic report

Research from USF College of Arts and Sciences faculty was cited in the 2023 Economic Report of the President. The report, released in March, includes a reflection by President Joseph Biden regarding the administration’s economic accomplishments, opportunities and challenges ahead.

Four CAS graduates named Outstanding Young Alumni

The University of South Florida Alumni Association held its annual Outstanding Young Alumni Awards ceremony on April 20 at the Gibbons Alumni Center at its Tampa campus. Four out of the six extraordinary honorees this year are College of Arts & Sciences graduates.

‘Sustain-A-Bull Symposium’ showcases Tampa Bay’s eco-conscious organizations

The University of South Florida’s 2nd Sustain-A-Bull Symposium at the USF Botanical Gardens brought together eco-conscious organizations from across campus and Tampa Bay to highlight ways to become more environmentally responsible.

19 new students welcomed into Dean’s Student Leadership Society

The USF College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) welcomed 19 new members to the Dean’s Student Leadership Society (DSLS). DSLS students are chosen for their superior leadership skills, often serving as volunteer coordinators, executive board members, or critical points of contact on behalf of CAS. DSLS also provides students with mentorship opportunities, professional development workshops, and year-round networking.

‘Blind Date With a Book’ brings mystery to the end of the semester

The USF College of Arts and Sciences Humanities Institute’s (HI) held their annual Blind Date With a Book on April 25 outside the Tampa campus library.

‘The Lesson Is Murder’: USF criminologist and graduate students debut true crime docuseries on Hulu

A new true crime docuseries, “The Lesson Is Murder,” follows University of South Florida criminology Associate Professor Bryanna Fox and her five graduate students as they show the reality of how researchers analyze convicted murderers’ personality traits and motives to develop psychological profiles. Dr. Fox is cofounder of the USF College of Arts and Sciences Center for Justice Research and Policy.

USF anthropologists improve access to fresh produce by teaching local K-12 students how to grow it themselves

As the cost of food rises, USF researchers remain focused on households struggling with food insecurity. The two-year program aims to educate communities on the food growing ecosystem and healthy eating.

USF Tampa campus adds 44 new trees in honor of Arbor Day

The USF Tree Committee, which is comprised of USF faculty, staff, students, and volunteers from the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County, the city of Temple Terrace, Tampa Electric (TECO), and Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, hosted a tree planting ceremony on March 28i n honor of Arbor Day (April 28).
