In early 2023, three students in the USF Department of English’s MFA program were notified that their writing submissions had been accepted for publication.

Andrea Rinard, a former award-winning high school English teacher and MFA student, had her submission "Canon in a Flash" accepted for publication in Teachers and Writers Magazine.

"Canon in a Flash" highlights utilizing flash fiction as part of craft construction. As Rinard describes it, flash fiction is “far from simply being an abridged short story, flash is a genre all its own.”

Also published in Teachers and Writers Magazine, is "Queering the Creative Writing Classroom" by H. Dietrich.

Dietrich, who is completing their MFA in creative writing and teaching composition and fiction, submitted "Queering the Creative Writing Classroom" in the hopes of sharing LGBTQ+-friendly strategies to foster an inclusive classroom.

MFA student Maria Loaiza Bonilla had her piece “What They Don’t Tell You” published in The Acentos Review

The piece details Bonilla’s experience as a BIPOC attending a Predominantly White Institution, or a PWI, as Bonilla references on several occasions, and finding ways to connect to a Latinx community.
