The series was funded by a "Road to Zero" grant from the National Safety Council, awarded based on the findings of an interdisciplinary paper Erin co-authored and published in 2019, entitled "Framing the Bicyclist: A Qualitative Study of Media Discourse About Fatal Bicycle Crashes."
