BIOLOGY B.S. (CIP26.0101)

Offered at all 3 campuses to completion

The Bachelor of Science in Biology provides a broad, robust foundation in the biological sciences. It prepares students for graduate programs in biology (e.g. zoology, botany, conservation biology, microbiology, marine biology, ecology and evolution), as well as professional degrees in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and pharmacology, or biology careers with industry and government agencies. The program emphasizes the development of critical thinking and communication skills, as well as competency in experimental design, data analysis and methodology for lab and field research.

A wide range of skill-building opportunities are available to students through undergraduate research, internships, study abroad, service learning, and field courses. This program also allows students the option to concentrate in one of four subdisciplines of biology: Animal Biology, Ecology and Evolution, Medical Biology, and Plant Biology.

Ecology and Evolution

This concentration is intended to serve students interested in ecology, environmental management and consulting, restoration, and natural resources management, environmental justice, museum conservators, as well as other biological and professional careers.

Plant Biology

The plant biology concentration is intended to provide students with a firm foundation in the principles of biology, with special emphasis on the form and function, ecology and evolution, and diversity of plants. This concentration is intended to serve students interested in careers or graduate studies in the plant sciences.

Animal Biology

The animal biology concentration is intended to provide students with a firm foundation in the principles of biology, with special emphasis on the form and function, ecology and evolution, and diversity of animals. This concentration is intended to serve students interested in veterinary medicine, wildlife management, careers working in a zoo or aquarium, as well as other biological and professional careers.
