Elliott Wiser spent 38 years in the media industry, most recently as the President and General Manager of WTSP-TV, the CBS affiliate in Tampa Bay, Florida. Previously, he served as Corporate Vice President of News and Local Programming for Bright House Networks. He won national recognition as the creator of the award winning 24-hour local news channel-Bay News 9, which he ran for 13 years. He also created the country’s first 24-hour local news channel in Spanish-Bay News 9 en espanol.
Also, Wiser was a corporate Vice President for Time Warner Cable; News Director at WTVR-TV in Richmond, Virginia; producer at WSB-TV in Atlanta; and producer/reporter at CNN Headline News. In addition to his management experience, he spent 12 years as an award-winning television anchor and business reporter.
Wiser graduated from The George Washington University in Washington D.C. with a special honors degree in Broadcasting. He earned his master’s degree from the Journalism School at the University of Missouri. His thesis on the early history of 24-hour local news was published by the RTDNA.
Wiser has been a contributing author for books on performing during weather emergencies and the state of the media business post pandemic. He spent two years conducting research on generational marketing for the Business School at USFSP.
At the graduate level he teaches Multimedia Reporting and Personal Success in the Media Workplace. For undergraduates he teaches Senior Seminar that focuses on helping graduating seniors find jobs.
