BIO

Thomas Slabon earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 2023, and also holds Master's degrees in Classics from Stanford and the University of Toronto. He joined USF's philosophy department after a pre-doctoral fellowship at St. Michael's College in the University of Toronto. He specializes in ancient Greek and Roman philosophy, and has other interests in contemporary ethics, philosophy of literature, philosophy of religion, and classical Chinese philosophy. Much of Thomas' recent energy has been focused on ancient theories of value and philosophical methodology, as well as on the philosophical arguments of early Christian authors. His work frequently sits at the intersection of the practical and theoretical—he's particularly interested in, for instance, the role that value judgments play in ancient metaphysics and natural science, or the metaphysical commitments lying behind Aristotle's value theory. He also has extensive training in classical philology, and gets particularly excited about Greek lyric poetry, tragedy, and popular religion.

When he's not teaching or doing research, you'll often find Thomas playing board games, cycling, skiing (while at higher latitudes), or baking sourdough.
