Bio
Elizabeth Strom is an Associate Professor in the School of Public Affairs at the University of South Florida. She previously served as the Director of USF's Office of Community Engagement and Partnerships. She has published on urban development and affordable housing issues in such journals as the Urban Affairs Review, Journal of Urban Affairs, and Housing Policy Debates. She is the author of two books, Building the New Berlin: The Politics of Urban Development in Germany's Capital (Lexington Books 2001) and The Urban Politics Reader (Routledge 2007).
Dr. Strom is also interested in tourism and how it shapes our cities. She has been active in carrying out assessments and evaluations for local governments and community-based organizations. Working with graduate students, in recent years she has provided a needs assessment of affordable housing in Dunedin, FL and a needs assessment/baseline study of the Sulphur Springs and East Tampa neighborhoods of Tampa as part of a grant-funded project through the CDC of Tampa.
In her free time, Dr. Strom obsesses about baseball, practices yoga (badly), dances salsa (really badly), and enjoys travel. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the City University of New York (1996), a Masters in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1985), and a BA from Swarthmore College (1980). Prior to joining USF, she was Associate Professor of Political Science at Rutgers University-Newark.
