GERMAN DAY 2018

The German Section at USF and the German Culture Club welcomed students, faculty, and staff to join in a day of activities showcasing the talents and interests of students studying German at USF and area High Schools. All activities were generously sponsored by the German Embassy in Washington, DC, as part of their annual “Campus Weeks” campaign.


GERMAN DAY 2017

The German Section of USF hosted another sucessful German day at USF, this years theme was "Germany Making Choices". Pictured above are winners of the poetry, poster, and video contest -- along with volunteers Dr. Grieb, Dr. Huber, Dr. Schindler, and Honorary Consul Norma Henning. The event is sponsored by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Washington, DC.To learn more check out the annual campaign Campus Weeks.


GERMAN DAY 2016

German Day will feature activities showcasing the talents of students studying German at USF. All activities are generously sponsored by the German Embassy in Washington, DC, as part of their annual “Campus Weeks” campaign. This year, the theme and focus is “Germany meets the US,” a celebration of centuries of German/US relations.


Public Lecture by Dr. Rosamond Mitchell (University of Southampton, UK)

The Department of World Languages was pleased to welcome Dr. Mitchell, who presented "Multilingualism in Study Abroad: Language Practices and Communities". She discussed how tradtional views of study abroad as a mono-cultural 'immersion' experience are outdated, arguing for a reconceptualization of study abroad as a multilingual arena with its own distinctive hybrid cultural practices.


Zoominations at Lowry Park Zoo- Collaboration with Chinese section

The WLE Chinese section is conducting cultural training for the Lowry Park Zoo to help them prepare for a major Chinese performance display, called Zoominations, in collaboration with Chinese partners. We are working with them to train employees of the zoo how to better interact with and host their Chinese partners. The lantern festival begins February 28, 2015 and continues for 3 months.


German Post-War Film Discussion Fall 2015

Dr. Will Lehman presented "Werner Herzog Since the Fall of the Wall: A Filmic Evolution" on Thursday, November 12, 2015 in the Grace Allen Room. This lecture was sponsored by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Department of World Languages.


GERMAN DAY 2015


The German section and the German Culture Club invites students, faculty and staff to join us in a day of activities showcasing the talents and interests of students studying German at Tampa Bay area high schools, as well as USF students. All activities are generously sponsored by the German Embassy in Washington, DC, as part of their annual "Campus Weeks" campaign.

This year the theme and focus is "25 Years of German Unity."
German Day will feature a poetry slam, poster contest, free refreshments, T-shirt give-away for the first 50 students, and free raffle with prizes.


Kaffeestunde Fall 2015

The German section has been hosting monthly informal gatherings of German students and instructors to discuss all things German in German and English.

Materialien, Strategien und aktuelle Themen für den DaF-Unterricht inklusive “Certificate of Completion”, Getränke und Mittagessen für alle Teilnehmer. GERMAN DAY 2014

The German Section of the Department of World Languages celebrated another German Day on Nov. 14, 2014. The special theme of this year’s event was the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Over 150 students studying German at Tampa Bay area high schools and at USF showcased their poster projects and performed in a poetry jam.

The Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Jürgen Borsch, and Honorary Consul Norma Henning participated in the festivities, as did the faculty of the German section and several volunteers. Two other events were held in remembrance of this special anniversary: On Nov. 13, 2014 Dr. Will Lehman presented a lecture entitled “The Wall in Film” and on Sept. 23, 2014, there was a film screening of The Lives of Others. All events were sponsored by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Washington, DC.
