Mark Weston AIA is an Assistant Professor of Architecture at the University of South Florida, where he teaches graduate courses in design and technology and is currently charged with developing a state-of-the-art digital fabrication laboratory and its associated curriculum. His research focus is multi-disciplinary, combining experimental building materials, digital fabrication, and physical computing with traditional notions of making in order to generate interactive and complex physical environments. The goal of this work is to situate digital architecture between art, construction, and the environment, rather than as a mere method for technical problem solving.
Mr. Weston holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Architecture with distinction from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he won the Thesis Award and the Booth Travelling Fellowship. While serving as a lecturer at the University of Michigan, Weston ran the digital fabrication laboratory and since that time has worked with Gehry Partners, Ply Architecture, Bowen Architecture and is currently principal of Maurer Weston LLC (MWlabs). His work has been featured in publications including Metropolis magazine, Environmental Building News, and Modern Steel Construction. Exhibitions of his electronic sculpture, kinetica, and interactive installations have been showcased in Michigan, Florida, and Germany.
