Dr. Victor Fung and Dr. Lisa Lehmberg Release Book on Oxford University Press

USF Professor of Music Education and Director of the Center for Music Education Research Dr. C. Victor Fung and Associate Professor Dr. Lisa J. Lehmberg of the University of Massachusetts released their book entitled Music for Life: Music Participation and Quality of Life of Senior Citizens in May. Dr. Lehmberg received her Ph. D in music education from USF in 2008.
The book examines the role of musical experiences on the quality of life of senior citizens and offers new insight into the incorporation of music education into the lives of people of all ages. The release includes new case studies pertaining to a wide range of disciplines including gerontology, music therapy, and adult learning.
Dr. Patricia Shehan Campbell, Professor and Chair of Ethnomusicology at the University of Washington, acknowledges the importance this research, "The colorful stories and the considerable data underscore the benefits to senior citizens of regular musical participation in their sunset years." Dr. Fung and Dr. Lehmberg encourage music professionals to act on this research in order to promote the power of music as a significant contributor to quality of life.
