Daianna “Dee” Apolito joined the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities at USF in October 2013. Dee is bilingual and her primary focus is serving Spanish speaking families within the CARD 14-county catchment area. Dee is the initial contact for families who are Spanish speaking and who have a family member on the autism spectrum. She registers the family, provides resources, answers questions, and prepares documentation to move the family to a CARD Consultant’s caseload. Dee provides translation services by acting as a liaison between the family and other CARD staff who may not be fluent in Spanish. She is part of an outreach team to help build a CARD presence within the Hispanic communities which are often underserved due to the language barrier.
