Eunice Gutierrez was presented the Student Organization Leader of the Year award at the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) 2022 I Heart Diversity Awards Celebration on April 14. Eunice Gutierrez is the president of the student organization Minority Students in Communication Sciences and Disorders (MSCSD).
Gutierrez was nominated by her peers and selected by OMA for exemplifying the office's mission and vision by reaching beyond her duties as a student organization leader. She was commended for reviving MSCSD so that underrepresented students like herself can have a voice in their profession and on campus. Peers that nominated Gutirrez credited her for creating a supportive community within minority students of Communication Sciences and Disorders and encouraging them to seek opportunities where minorities lack a voice.
Her long list of accomplishments was highlighted by OMA at the awards ceremony. As president, Gutierrez has planned meetings and programs to highlight various cultural and heritage months and provided professional development, mentorship, and engagement for students. Outside of USF, she has coordinated opportunities with multiple high schools to educate students about the communication sciences and disorders field.
Eunice Gutierrez accepts the Student Organization Leader of the Year award.
Gutierrez will be giving a presentation titled "Living your Legacy: Embracing Student Diversity through Clinical Education" at the Florida Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists convention in July 2022.
