Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) graduate students have been assisting speech-language pathologists at the Nina Harris and Paul B Stephens Exceptional Student Education (ESE) centers. Clinical Instructors Marian Lowther, MS, CCC-SLP, and Katie Johnson are supervising students at these sites as they obtain hands-on experience providing interventions with specialized populations.
These centers are dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing environment where students with severe or profound special needs can build self-confidence, independence, and self-esteem to maximize their success at home, school, and in the community. Pinellas ESE centers provide a highly specialized curriculum due to significant behavioral challenges paired with significant delays in development and/or medical needs requiring continuous intervention from trained staff.
