MHLP researcher wins LGBTQ+ Older Adults and Aging Scholar’s Award

Lampe's research focuses on the behavioral health disparities of LGBTQIA+ aging populations and the health of diverse older adults living with dementia and their family care partners. 

Nik Lampe, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy (MHLP), was selected to receive the inaugural LGBTQ+ Older Adults and Aging Scholar’s Award administered by the Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing (ISGMH) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, in collaboration with AARP.

This national award recognizes Lampe's innovative research on LGBTQ+ older adults focused on enhancing access to equitable dementia care and caregiver support for LGBTQ+ aging communities. The award will provide Lampe with valuable research resources to help develop effective programs and interventions for LGBTQ+ older adults. It includes $5,000 to support research-related activities, AARP data access, a summer residency on the Northwestern University Chicago campus in ISGMH, mentorship, and opportunities to publish/present findings at the 2026 National LGBTQ Health Conference in Chicago.
