Spreading love: Students create Valentine’s Day cards for older adults

Members of Sigma Phi Omega Upsilon Chapter (SPO) and the Student Association for Aging Studies (SAAS) gathered over breakfast last week to create Valentine's Day cards for socially isolated older adults in our community. These student organizations are aligned with a mission to promote positive aging.

Research highlights the importance of social connection for well-being and that even small gestures – like receiving a heartfelt card – can brighten someone’s day, reduce feelings of loneliness, and reinforce a sense of belonging.

Beyond this event, SPO and SAAS regularly collaborate with community partners to advance USF's Age-Friendly University Initiative, fostering meaningful engagement with older adults.
