John A. Rutledge, MSW is the BSW Program Chair and an Assistant Instructor with the University of South Florida, School of Social Work. Rutledge received both his BSW and MSW from USF and has over 25 years of experience in the Tampa Bay area. He was most recently with the USF Diabetes and Endocrinology Center and enjoyed his role as an Adjunct Instructor with the University prior to joining the Faculty in a full time capacity.
Rutledge offers a diverse background in community based social work which has included child welfare, family systems, chronic disease and illness as well as end of life and palliative care. Modalities of practice have included case management, crisis intervention, individual and family counseling as well as other generalist approaches. He has held positions that range from direct practice to program administration, but has always held a passion for teaching. His approach in the classroom is student centered, realizing that the best learning environment often celebrates the uniqueness of each person’s life experiences and uses that to develop energy in building a strong foundation for those choosing to enter the social work profession.
