Graduate Teaching Assistants
Preparing for College Teaching
Preparing for College Teaching (PCT) is an optional 8-week program that guides participants through the process of designing and instructing college classes effectively. PCT is a zero-credit course (meaning it appears on your transcript!) that will teach you how to teach, and teach well. Though the course is zero credits, the course workload is comparable to a three-credit course. This course is beneficial to any graduate student who strives to be a great teacher. All graduate students are invited to attend.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
1. design and build a course from scratch
2. deliver lectures and presentations effectively
3. facilitate a discussion that includes all participants
4. manage student behavior through effective policies and expectations
5. build an online teaching portfolio, which includes a sample syllabus, sample assignment
and rubric, a lesson plan and a teaching
philosophy statement
6. discuss teaching methods and pedagogical choices
