SHRM Essentials of HR

New and improved: SHRM Essentials of Human Resources

The SHRM Essentials of HR course offered through USF’s Office of Corporate Training and Professional Education (CTPE) recently underwent a redesign and is now updated to reflect the most current trends and information related to human resources careers.

With CTPE, SHRM Essentials of HR can be taken as a standalone course or a prerequisite for the Human Resources Certificate program.

USF has been ranked as the No. 1 education partner for 2023 SHRM Essentials of HR in enrollments and has been a top provider in the course for several consecutive years.

What’s New

The new iteration of the course covers fundamental topics, including how to lead with purpose, maximize talent, champion organizational culture, optimize intelligence, accelerate performance, and understand the law.

In the course, participants will complete lessons with updated information on talent acquisition, employee engagement, mental health, and other essential HR content.

Participants will engage with real-world applications and scenarios to enhance their learning experiences. Learning aids will also be available for download to help master the course basics.

Additionally, the new format features a blend of short-form eLearning, podcasts, and videos, all accessible on a mobile-friendly platform that allows participants to learn on a device of their preference.

“Unlike mathematics, HR is not a static discipline of study,” said Nancy Dimis, academic services administrator for CTPE. “Therefore, it’s imperative for HR professionals to explore the most up-to-date materials whether they are new to the career or have a robust background in the field.”

Overall, the SHRM Essentials of Human Resources course will help participants build a solid foundation of knowledge in HR practices, behaviors, topics, and challenging workplace situations.

Real-World Application

Upon completion of the class, participants will be able to identify how HR should play a part in their organization, apply the knowledge learned to their daily activities, and explore career opportunities within the field.

SHRM Essentials is offered on an open-enrollment basis in a convenient live online format to accommodate the lives of busy working professionals.

Participants learn from industry experts who lead, consult, and operate within the local area, which provides great networking opportunities for those looking to connect with other professionals in the field.

USF has been providing human resources courses to professionals who want to enter or advance in the field for many years.

“The wealth of information covering compensation, benefits, employee development, and performance management was wonderful. Since my specialty area has always been in recruitment and placement, I had a hard time getting my supervisors to approve training outside that area,” said LaShawn Douglas-Green, an HR specialist who completed one of the SHRM courses before the redesign. “The SHRM Essentials course was a great way to gain education in other HR disciplines.”
