Anchin Center Hosts Precalculus Workshop

The David C. Anchin Center for the Advancement of Teaching successfully hosted a workshop for AP Precalculus teachers on Saturday, April 13, 2024. This workshop was designed to support educators who are new to teaching AP Precalculus as they prepare their students for the end-of-year exams.
The workshop provided valuable insights and practical tools to help teachers navigate the complexities of AP Precalculus. Topics covered included a variety of teaching resources, engaging Desmos review activities, and supplemental materials to enhance student preparation. Participants also had the opportunity to work with practice Free Response Questions (FRQs) and gain a thorough understanding of the AP exam and scoring process.
Facilitating the workshop was Ms. Dorothy Schroeder, a veteran educator with 27 years of experience in Hillsborough County, Florida. Ms. Schroeder has an extensive background in teaching a wide range of math subjects from grade 6 through AP Calculus BC and currently serves as an adjunct professor at Hillsborough Community College. Her leadership roles include being a department head, math coach, and curriculum developer. Additionally, she is a National SpringBoard trainer, has edited Florida Virtual School courses, and reviewed Geometry EOC test items for the Florida Department of Education. Currently, she is a member of the PreAP National Faculty. Ms. Schroeder's dedication to teaching has been recognized with awards such as the Edyth May Sliffe Award for Distinguished Mathematics Teaching in Middle School and the Robert Noyce Master Teacher Fellow recognition.
Ms. Schroeder’s academic background includes a B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Mathematical Programming from the University of Tampa and an M.A. in Math Education from the University of South Florida.
The workshop was well-received by participants, who appreciated the depth of knowledge and practical strategies shared by Ms. Schroeder. The Anchin Center continues to provide high-quality professional development opportunities, empowering educators to excel in their teaching and support their students effectively.
