Alumni Accomplishment - Himanshu Thapliyal ‘11
February 18, 2019
Department of Computer Science and Engineering alumni, and now University of Kentucky
assistant professor, Himanshu Thapliyal has received a National Science Foundation
(NSF) Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award.
Thapliyal’s project is titled “Utilizing Principles of Energy Recovery Computing for
Low-Energy and DPA-Resistant IoT Devices.” It focuses on the “[development of] circuit
design techniques for energy-recovery circuits ... to facilitate low-power implementation
of block cipher for mobile Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices, where reducing power
consumption is critical.”
Thapliyal hopes the results of this project will “make a strong case for industry
adoption of [energy recovery] computing for the design of low-energy and secure IoT
devices” and also “broaden graduate, undergraduate, and minority and underrepresented
participation in cyber and hardware security research and education.”
