USF Whitehatters win Neon Temple CTF a second year in a row

Students from the USF Whitehatters Cyber Security Club won first place in a CTF Tournament at BSides Tampa X 2023. BSides Tampa is an Information Technology Security Conference sponsored by the Tampa Bay Chapter of (ISC)² and hosted by USF. The CTF tournament was organized by Neon Temple. Neon Temple is a Cybersecurity guild from Tampa. This year USF hosted BSides Tampa in the Muma College of Business. The CTF challenges were Pirate and Sea Shante themed. This is the second year in a row the USF Whitehatters won first place at BSides.

“It was clear that Neon Temple put a lot of love in the creation of these challenges. The energy from the Neon Temple team and the motivation from my teammates made this competition very memorable!" said Austin Worline, Whitehatters President. Jacob Hammargren thanks Neon Temple for “designing such intriguing challenges, and BSides Tampa for fostering an inclusive environment for the cybersecurity community to converge and collaborate."

The winning team was Jackson Liveringhouse, Jacob Hammargren, and Austin Worline, all are undergraduate students in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
