Tony Lattanze

Anthony J. Lattanze is currently the Director of Engineering at the Institute of Applied Engineering (IAE) at the University of South Florida where he leads multidisciplinary teams in various projects in support of Department of Defense customers. Anthony leads and manages engineering teams on technology experimentation, prototyping, and concept verification projects across engineering disciplines to include electrical, mechanical, and software engineering.

Before his role at the IAE, Anthony was the Managing Director of Engineering at Wind Talker Innovations (WTI), a mesh networking, Internet-of-Things mesh networking startup. He directed teams of hardware and software engineers building networking products. Anthony was the software and systems for the product line.

Prior to his role at WTI, Anthony was the director of the Masters of Software Engineering programs at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). He founded of the Embedded Software Engineering Master’s program at CMU. He taught numerous software engineering courses and mentored student project teams for capstone projects. Anthony was the senior studio mentor responsible for training and coaching other faculty mentors.

At CMU, Anthony was a senior member of the research staff at the Software Engineering Institute at CMU. He was responsible for starting and directing an initiative for Intelligent Embedded Safety Critical Systems. Anthony also worked with the Robotics Institute at CMU where he led the design and development of software systems for advanced robotics projects.

Anthony ran his own successful consulting firm and provided software and systems engineering design consultation services to industries throughout the world. His primary interest is in the area of software intensive system design – especially as it applies to embedded systems and the Internet of Things domain. Anthony is the author of numerous papers and a textbook on software architecture design (Architecting Software Intensive Systems, Auerbach Publications, New York, NY).

Anthony began his career as an avionics software engineer at the United States Flight Test Center at Edwards Air Force Base, CA. He was the Chief of Software Engineering at the At the Flight Test Center and was involved with numerous projects as a software and systems architect, and a technical project manager for the B-2 Stealth Bomber, F-117 Stealth Fighter, F-22 Advanced Tactical Fighter, and Air Borne Laser flight test projects.
