USF Engineering Celebrates ASEMFL’s Next Leader: Yogi Goswami, Appointed as President-Elect

D. Yogi Goswami, Ph.D., a distinguished university professor in the Department of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering at USF, has been appointed president-elect of the Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine of Florida (ASEMFL). This role highlights Professor Goswami's extensive contributions to the fields of solar energy and sustainable technologies. Professor Goswami has served ASEMFL for over a decade.

Paul R. Sanberg, Ph.D., a distinguished university professor in the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, said, "Yogi Goswami has been an invaluable part of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) since its inception over a decade ago. He is an incredible active Fellow, Chapter Member, and partner and his support and dedication to the Academy’s mission has been a shining example to our members. In fact, last year we launched the Yogi and Lovely Goswami Award, which is presented by NAI in his honor during our Annual Conference, recognizing inventors creating remarking impacts in the fields of energy and sustainability. We are excited to continue to work with Dr. Goswami in his new role as President of ASEMFL."

ASEMFL includes members of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine as well as others who have made significant contributions to the fields of Science, Engineering or Medicine and in the State of Florida.

“As a researcher and educator, I consider it both a duty and a privilege to gather and analyze information on issues of importance to the State, providing objective and informed insights to the people and leaders of Florida. I am truly honored by the trust placed in me by the members of the ASEMFL in electing me to this position. I will strive to meet their expectations to the best of my ability,” Professor Goswami said of his appointment.

As the new president-elect of ASEMFL, Professor Goswami is expected to lead initiatives that promote scientific innovation and collaboration across Florida and work with the Board and members of ASEMFL to provide input on science, technology and health issues to the State of Florida. His vision includes fostering interdisciplinary research and addressing critical challenges in energy sustainability and providing unbiased expert advice to the legislature and administration of the State of Florida.

"The Academy is thrilled to continue working alongside ASEMFL to recognize and support the incredible research and inventions being developed across engineering, medicine, and science. We are proud to have 3 NAI Fellows serving ASEMFL’s Board of Directors – Christine Schmidt, Sylvia Wilson Thomas, and President-Elect Yogi Goswami – and thank them for their contributions to both Academies. Together, we can shape the research and innovation landscape in Florida and beyond," said Paul R. Sanberg.

Academic and Research Excellence

At USF, Professor Goswami directs the TECO Clean Energy Research Center, where he leads research in solar energy applications, energy storage, and indoor air quality. His work includes the development of the Goswami Cycle, a combined power and cooling cycle that has influenced global research on thermodynamic processes for more efficient energy production.
