UGC Overview
The Undergraduate Council (UGC) is made up of 23 faculty members representing an inclusive mixture from colleges, departments, and locations within One USF. UGC also has three student representatives to make up at total of 26 positions within the council. We work closely with faculty and staff from Undergraduate Studies to provide a critical function for success at USF. The council is charged with reviewing proposals for new and revised undergraduate courses, programs and degrees. It also reviews academic policies and provides recommendations for development of future undergraduate programs.
The members of the Undergraduate Council have a very hands-on role as they meet twice per month to review policies and proposals. Faculty review of courses and curricula focus on bringing a perspective to the proposers that they may not have considered. This overview is essential for developing excellence within education and it offers exciting opportunities for council members to learn about many different courses, programs, and education approaches. This insightful and engaging work helps add to faculty knowledge and understanding of curricula as they progress through their three-year term on the council.
2021-2022 Recap
During the 2021-2022 academic year, the Undergraduate Council added ten new members to the committee as we continue to implement One USF. This was an enjoyable time for us to get to know new members on our team and to broaden our involvement in all three USF locations. We also were able to more fully embrace the Curriculog system that is now in its second academic cycle at USF. For those of us that were on the council before Curriculog was implemented, we are finding this new system to be very effective in communicating course and curricula content. The streamline communication between our work on the council and the publication of the catalog is a great improvement for us and for all of USF.
2022-2023 Plans
As we look to August 2022, we are seeking eight new members to our team. We encourage any faculty member that it interested in learning more about the innovative work being done throughout the University to consider joining us. It promises to be another rewarding year of advocating for education excellence by using our knowledge, experience, and collaboration to help our colleagues develop the best courses and curricula possible. We have continued to be impressed with how hard all colleges worked together during the consolidation years. Now that we are fully being One USF, we look forward to unifying our focus no matter which location we consider home. For any questions or feedback for the council, please contact the UGC chair Dr. Oscar Bernard at rbernar3@usf.edu or visit our website to learn more.
