BIOGRAPHY:
Robert Wayne Tomlinson, PhD, currently serves as the Associate Dean at the Naval War
College (NWC) at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. In this role,
he oversees a team of 20 faculty members and two administrative staff, ensuring the
smooth functioning of the NWC at NPS program, including student registration, program
performance, and faculty development. Dr. Tomlinson also liaises with NPS academic
leadership to further the mission of the NWC and is responsible for the academic policies
and classroom evaluations of the faculty.
With over two decades of experience in higher education and military leadership, Tomlinson
previously served as the Director of the Advanced Strategic Leadership Studies Program
at the School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) in Fort Leavenworth. His academic
expertise includes facilitating courses in National Security Affairs, Civil-Military
Relations, and Theater Security Decision Making. Dr. Tomlinson has contributed to
shaping the strategic perspectives of senior military officers and professionals through
his curriculum design and instruction on decision-making at the theater-strategic
level.
His extensive military background includes roles such as Deputy Commander of the 611th
Air Operations Group and Director of Political Military Affairs on the Joint Chiefs
of Staff. He has authored numerous publications on military strategy, foreign policy,
and decision-making processes. His professional affiliations include the Global and
National Security Institute and the Middle East Studies Association. Throughout his
career, he has been recognized for his excellence in both military service and academic
leadership.
