At GNSI, I am analyzing the contributions of foreigners to the US military both in the past and in the present, its current enlistment crisis, and possible solutions for it through policy change. However, my historical research has always been connected to a keen interest in topics of security, defense, and foreign affairs.

I am a trained military historian (B.A. University of Milan, 2014; M.A. University of Southern Mississippi, 2017; Ph.D. The Ohio State University, 2023), with interest in US military history particularly in its intersection with social and cultural history, history of immigration, race, ethnicity, and sense of national identity. My dissertation, titled “Italian Yanks: World War II and the Integration of Italian-American Service Members into Mainstream American Society” conjugated my research interests with my own Italian roots and personal interest in Italian-American history. My work analyzed how military service during World War II allowed Italia-Americans to integrate in American mainstream society and shape modern-day Italian-American identity.

In addition to internship and volunteer experiences at historical institutions throughout my academic journey, I worked at Washington State University before arriving at GNSI at the University of South Florida.
