Dr. Tom Frontera recognized as national leader in graduate medical education

Dr. Alfred (Tom) Frontera, professor and vice chair of the Department of Neurology at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, is a recipient of the 2024 Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

In the Department of Neurology, Dr. Frontera is director of the department’s residency program, which provides education for graduate medical students. In this role, Dr. Frontera has helped to redesign the clinical, didactic and simulation-based educational experiences in neurology for USF Health medical students, residents and fellows. 

Dr. Frontera is one of just 10 physicians in the United States to be honored by the ACGME with this award, which recognizes program directors who have fostered innovation and improvement in their residency and/or fellowship programs and served as exemplary role models for residents and fellows.  He and his fellow honorees will be recognized at the national ACGME conference in March 2024. 

Dr. Frontera also is director of the Epilepsy Center of Excellence at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital and an attending physician at Tampa General Hospital. He is board certified in adult neurology, clinical neurophysiology, and epilepsy.
