Jose Lezama, MD, FACP, MACP, professor in the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine
Department of Internal Medicine, was recently selected for Mastership of the American
College of Physicians, making him only the third in USF Health history to receive
the honor with Phil Altus, MD, (2001) and Roy H Behnke, MD, FACP, MACP, (1996) founding
chair of the USF Health Department of Internal Medicine.
According to ACP bylaws, masters shall be fellows who have been selected because of
“integrity, positions of honor, impact in practice or in medical research, or other
attainments in science or in the art of medicine.”
Dr. Lezama has made a career out of impressing MCOM and ACP as a leader, physician,
and educator. He is a five-time recipient of the MCOM John T. Sinnott Award and the
Osler Award for best clinical teacher and best exemplary role model. He’s received
the Department of Medicine's Teacher of the Year award seven times and earned recognition
as a top-10 internal medicine physician by the ACP. He received the ACP's Distinguished
Teacher of the Year award for Florida, which recognizes the best teaching physician
amongst all state internal medicine training programs.
Dr. Lezama will be formally recognized at the ACP World Meeting in Boston April 2024.
