Tampa General continues its rise in U.S. News rankings for specialties led or co-led by USF Health faculty

Tampa General remains the highest-ranking hospital in Tampa Bay and is now the second highest ranking hospital in Florida, based on today’s release by U.S. News & World Report of its newest rankings.

The announcement included rankings for 11 Tampa General specialties, including eight in the nation’s top 50 (with two of those breaking into the top 20), three among the top 10% in the nation. Many of the 11 specialties are led or co-led by USF Health faculty physicians.

"We are delighted to see Tampa General Hospital continue to rise in national quality rankings," said Charles J. Lockwood, MD, MHCM, executive vice president of USF Health and dean of the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. "TGH's recognition in so many medical specialties is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our Morsani College of Medicine physician leaders. We are deeply grateful to them for the high-quality and compassionate care they provide to our patients every day."

Dr. Lockwood also is executive vice president and chief academic officer at Tampa General.

Below is a summary of the 2024-25 U.S. News Best Hospitals results.

The eight specialties ranked among the top 50 in the nation are:

  • Cancer – ranked #48 in the U.S.
  • Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery – ranked #45 in the U.S.
  • Diabetes & Endocrinology – ranked #35 in the U.S.
  • Ear, Nose & Throat – ranked #31 in the U.S.
  • Obstetrics & Gynecology – ranked #6 in the U.S.
  • Gastroenterology and GI Surgery – ranked #15 in the U.S.
  • Orthopedics – ranked #46 in the U.S.
  • Urology – ranked #35 in the U.S.

 Among the Top 10% in the nation in 3 specialties: 

  • Geriatrics
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery
  • Pulmonology

 Highest-ranking hospital in Florida in 3 specialties:

  • Obstetrics & Gynecology
  • Gastroenterology and GI Surgery
  • Ear, Nose & Throat

Two specialties ranked among the Top 20 in the nation: 

  • Obstetrics & Gynecology
  • Gastroenterology and GI Surgery
