GenAI in Action: Impact and Possibilities: A free new micro-course: Last Chance

Last chance to enroll: USF's free GenAI in Action micro-course closes soon

More than 7,000 participants have already taken advantage of USF Innovative Education’s free online micro-course, GenAI in Action: Impact and Possibilities, making it a widely popular learning opportunity for anyone eager to explore generative artificial intelligence and capture the power of this rapidly advancing technology.

The last day to register for this impactful program is Monday, March 24, and all modules must be completed when the course closes on March 31.

In just three to five hours, participants learn how to write effective prompts, create their own AI toolkit for writing, research, or learning, and develop an action plan to ethically and responsibly incorporate AI into their work.

The micro-course also includes subject matter experts, targeted assignments, and up-to-date content that reflects the latest breakthroughs in GenAI technology.

“We designed GenAI in Action: Impact and Possibilities to provide the community with a valuable resource to understand and identify ethical and relevant use cases for GenAI,” said Desiree Henderson, one of the course developers, who works for USF Innovative Education’s Digital Learning team as a learning design project manager. “The course showcases USF’s expertise through our world-class faculty and community partners. The overwhelmingly positive feedback we’ve received reflects our intentions to upskill learners in a dynamic, interactive way for quick and practical application.”

Participants also benefit from guidance from USF faculty and staff, and industry professionals.

USF AI specialists include:

  • Christine Brown, associate vice president of Innovative Education
  • Evan Fruehauf, assistant librarian
  • John Licato, associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering
  • Bo Pei, assistant professor in the College of Education
  • Adam Phillips, assistant professor of instruction and assistant director of first-year writing
  • Jenifer Schneider, professor of literacy studies and interim dean of the USF College of Education

Industry professionals include:

  • Niriksha Patel, senior executive service at Deep Water Point & Associates
  • Keith Sartain, senior director of global IT at ConnectWise
  • Douglas Smith, director of AI operations at Element451

With in-depth knowledge from USF’s AI leaders and industry professionals, participants gain an inside perspective on the potential of AI and how it can shape our future.

“I enrolled because I’ve taken several other courses through USF and knew it would be high quality,” said Susan Manning, senior manager of customer education at Pearson, who completed the course shortly after it opened. “Although I have completed other GenAI foundational training, this course addressed topics I hadn’t seen discussed previously. I especially liked the ethical discussions and the application to education. The final segment on the impact of GenAI on the workforce was well done.”

To register for GenAI in Action: Impact and Possibilities, visit the website to sign up by March 24. While the course is free to complete, participants can purchase a $39 digital badge to showcase their AI skills on their resumes and LinkedIn profiles.
