INSTITUTION, MAJOR, AND HOBBIES
Hey, I’m Brooke Page. I’m a PhD student in Geography and Environmental Science and Policy at the University of South Florida. I recently received my BS in Mathematics: Computational and Applied, also from USF. In my free time, I enjoy reading, hiking, and hanging out with my cat.
CAREER INTERESTS
My research focuses on tornado risk perception. When I receive my PhD, I’d love to work for a government organization such as NOAA or the USGS to continue research regarding the environment and how it impacts humans. I hope to use my technical skills such as mathematics, statistics, and GIS to answer social science questions regarding the environment. Particularly, as severe weather gets worse, it is important for us to be able to adapt and mitigate the damage.
WHY I CHOSE TO ATTEND THE USF MAKING WAVES
I am assisting with the Making Waves REU because I was fortunate enough to experience undergraduate research when I conducted my Honors Thesis, so when my major professor asked if I’d be willing to help out over the summer, I thought it’d be a great opportunity to contribute to creating a similarly meaningful research experience. I think this REU is a great way for undergraduates to get a taste of what they might experience if they went to graduate school.
