ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Tropical storms have been on the move since May, a little earlier than usual this year, and right now is as good a time as ever to brush up on your lightning safety protocols. As Daniel Noah with the National Weather Service in Ruskin, FL shares, “…1,170,979 is the average number of lightning flashes in Florida each year.” Check out these NOAA NWS links on lightning safety and resources for media, teachers, teens, and anyone interested in improving their lightning knowledge.
For those interested in the how and why, here is an interesting page from NOAA NWS on the 5 ways in which people can be struck by lightning.
