Mya Breitbart, “virus hunter” at the CMS, named Distinguished University Professor

Mya Breitbart, a biological oceanography professor at the USF College of Marine Science (CMS), published a landmark paper in the Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences (PNAS) about a new sequencing technique called viral metagenomics. The method eventually formed the backbone of Breitbart’s impressive research portfolio, and it’s a big part of the reason she has earned so many accolades, most recently, Distinguished University Professor (DUP) at USF.

NASA TechLeap Winners Advance Technology to Aid Lunar Landings

The USF Institute of Applied Engineering is one of three winners in the NASA TechLeap Prize competition. Winners are awarded an initial $200,000 prize to help mature their technology, with the opportunity for each to win up to a total of $650,000 in prizes as well as a suborbital flight test on a commercial rocket-powered landing vehicle.
