USF Health researchers show how the placenta protects fetus in the womb against viral infections
Give credit to your dad’s gene for keeping you safe during those long months in your mother’s womb. Because without this genetic warrior, you might have succumbed to any number of viral infections that otherwise could be fatal to a fetus. A new paper published this week in the journal Cell Host & Microbe explains the mechanisms behind this anti-viral protection.
USF designated as first academic institution for statewide human trafficking data repository
USF will now serve as the human trafficking data repository for the entire state of Florida. Gov. Ron DeSantis recently signed Senate Bill 7064, authorizing the USF Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Risk to Resilience and Research Lab to spotlight human trafficking hotspots and commence region-specific policy making as well as streamline law enforcement efforts.

The Association of American Universities announced Thursday USF was accepted to join its elite group of institutions, marking a watershed moment for the school. Only four schools have been invited into the AAU in the last 10 years. USF is the fifth youngest school in the AAU and one of six founded after 1950.
