My approach to therapy:
I have worked in various settings, including agencies, faith-based organizations, psychiatric inpatient and emergency medical units, primary care, private practices, and schools. I utilize a collaborative, client-centered, strength-based, and systemic approach in clinical practice. My approach is rooted in the belief that clients are the experts of their lives, and their unique perspectives are essential to the problem-solving process. By considering the larger systemic influences on an individual's life, I strive to address not only the immediate issues presented but also the broader context in which they occur. This approach allows for a more comprehensive understanding of the challenges clients face and opens avenues for holistic and sustainable solutions. When working with clients, I often utilize solution-focused and narrative therapy approaches. In addition, I am committed to creating a welcoming, culturally sensitive, caring, and supportive environment to help clients heal and thrive.
Throughout my career, as a Dominican American cisgender woman, I have dedicated myself to promoting awareness and improving the care of mental health in underserved and marginalized communities, with a particular emphasis on the Latine and Hispanic populations. My career interests include providing consultation, supervising and mentoring others, engaging in teaching and training, and offering counseling to help individuals improve their relationships and overall well-being.
My approach to supervision:
I approach supervision from a systems-oriented lens, considering the interpersonal dynamics and contextual factors that influence the therapist-client relationship, modeling reflective practices to help the therapist develop self-awareness and observe patterns in the therapeutic system. I enjoy working collaboratively with the therapist to identify goals and structure for supervision. In terms of the supervision structure, there is a focus on understanding and navigating the complex relationships involved, including the therapist-client, therapist-supervisor, and client-supervisor. I tailor my approach to meet the specific developmental needs and experience levels of each therapist, ensuring the right balance of guidance, encouragement, and opportunities for growth.
