What We Do

ADHD Policy for Medication Management

The Counseling Center provides limited psychiatric services for ADHD stimulant medication management.

If you have received ADHD medication previously AND wish to receive these services, you will need to provide the following:

- Medical records from the practitioner (e.g. psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse) who provided your diagnosis and treatment of ADHD

AND

- Documentation of a comprehensive ADHD evaluation (testing) completed within the past three years.

Once we have received this documentation, we can refer you to one of our psychiatrists for medication management.  You should understand that obtaining these medical records might be time consuming. We suggest that you continue to obtain prescriptions from your past provider until the transition can be made.

If you are unable to obtain these records: Students who do not meet the requirements outlined above and who have been prescribed ADHD medication by their physician in the past should continue to work with their physician to obtain their prescriptions or can be referred to a community physician for continued care. The Counseling Center can assist with such referrals.

If you have never been tested/evaluated for ADHD: The Counseling Center can help you find someone in the community to provide a comprehensive ADHD evaluation.

Please keep in mind that the medications used to treat ADHD are controlled stimulant medications and require medical oversight, which means you need to have the appropriate assessment and documentation first.  Counseling Center clinicians can help in figuring out treatment options, but you will not be referred to our psychiatrists without a comprehensive evaluation.

Accommodations: If you are interested in obtaining accommodations, please contact the office of Students with Disabilities Services to get more information. They can also help you find someone who provides comprehensive ADHD and other learning disability evaluations.
