Lambda Pi Eta (Xi Mu Chapter)

Lambda Pi Eta is the National Communication Honor Society. The Xi Mu chapter at the University of South Florida embraces the following mission: To recognize, foster, and reward outstanding scholastic achievement; to stimulate interest in the field of communication; to promote and encourage professional development among communication majors; and to establish and maintain close relationships and understanding between faculty and students.

Eligibility

Invitations for submission are made in early fall and spring semesters. Look for flyers posted around the department and on CANVAS.

Students are eligible for election to membership once they:

  1. Have completed 60 credit hours of course work
  2. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for all courses taken
  3. Have completed 12 credit hours in the communication major
  4. Have a GPA of at least 3.25 for all communication courses
  5. Currently be enrolled as a student at USF in good standing

Application

To be considered for the Xi Mu chapter of Lambda Pi Eta at the University of South Florida, you will complete an application. There is an application period each spring semester. The cost for membership is $30 and includes lifetime membership to the Lambda Pi Eta Honors Society, with certificate and membership pin. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to purchase either a gold or red & white graduation honors cord for $10.40. If you would like to order a cord, you will pay $40.40 for membership dues and cord. Dues must be paid electronically upon notification of acceptance into the Xi Mu chapter; a link will be sent to you via email to collect payment.

To submit your online application, you will need to follow the link and provide the following:

  • Name, U#, and other requested information
  • Current copy of your Degree Works report
  • A 100-250 word statement that explains why studying Communication is important to you

New members of LPH will be recognized at a department ceremony.
