Hazardous Waste
Pharmaceutical Waste
Many pharmaceuticals, when discarded, can be hazardous to the environment and are regulated as hazardous waste pharmaceuticals (HWP) by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). Therefore, at USF, pharmaceutical wastes must be managed and disposed as HWP, unless a waste determination has deemed they are non-hazardous. Only then, may non-hazardous waste phamaceuticals be disposed of via the sewer or regular trash. See below for more information.
