Hub and spoke model

Created by OpenAI – DALL-E

USF's AI, cybersecurity, and computing research is spread across USF, and it is marked by over 200 faculty experts who have externally funded projects, published papers, or have patents on these topics. Together, they had a substantial $47 million in related research expenditures over the past four years.

The College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing provides a hub-and-spoke framework to foster future growth in these fields and their applications at USF. The hub (college) concentrates on foundational research, while the spokes (other colleges and units) engage in both fundamental and applied research that promotes knowledge and discovery across various disciplines using new tools, techniques, and paradigms.

The research goal of the College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing is to significantly enhance foundational and use-inspired research capacity, particularly in AI, neuromorphic computing, cybersecurity, quantum computing, human-centered computing, educational technology, and edge technologies. Utilize this strength to lead and support the convergence of diverse disciplines in engineering, sciences, arts and humanities, education, medicine, public health, business, and sustainability to tackle ambitious, critical, large-scale societal issues. At the same time, conduct studies on the privacy, trust, ethical, legal, and policy implications of these technologies.

The college's research will be seeded with ongoing research by the Computer Science and Engineering Department faculty members, who are executing $12 million in active external research grants from NSF, DoD, NIH, NIST, industry, and state sources.

Details about research performance for the past 36 months are summarized in terms of publications, grants, patents, and awards by Academic Analytics.

The more than 25 laboratories in the college can be clustered into the following groups:

Ongoing research at the spokes is being compiled and will be expanded later. Below are some research topics considered in other USF units (spokes). If you have relevant research on these topics or related subjects, we invite you to join this network at USF. Please send us information about your laboratory, center, or institute at aicybercomputing@usf.edu.
