Professional Bio
I'm a geologist from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, where my passion for natural
hazard assessment, particularly volcanic hazards, led me to focus on volcanology early
in my career. My bachelor’s thesis explored the columnar jointing structures around
the Nevado del Ruiz volcano in Colombia.
I pursued two master’s degrees—one at the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain and another
at Université Clermont-Auvergne in France. My research during these programs included:
1) tracing wood silicification processes in volcanic environments through stable isotope
analysis, and 2) numerical modeling of volcanic gas emission dispersion.
Currently, I'm completing my PhD at the University of South Florida, my work involves
spectral analysis of the seismicity of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano and the geochemical
and geomorphological characterization of what may be the northernmost monogenetic
volcanic field in the Andes.
