Fall 2023
October 26th, 2023 : Please join the Humanities and Cultural studies department at the presentation of The Sounds the Devil Makes: Listening to The Exorcist, presented by Dr. Maria Cizmic and Dr. Daniel Belgrad on October 26th in MSC 4200. This event is free to all students, staff and public.
We often say, "Did you see that movie?" as if movies were exclusively visual experiences. To redirect our attention, Dr. Cizmic and Dr. Belgrad will be discussing how sound and music are used in The Exorcist 's portrayal of demonic possession. They will be exploring how the sonic spaces of the movie give form to the movie makers' ideas of the supernatural -- and how this movie has reshaped what we hear in the music.
