Is the GRE required for MS or PhD program admission?
The GRE is recommended but is not required.
I only have a Bachelor’s degree. Can I still apply to the PhD program?
Yes, students may apply for the PhD program with a Bachelor's degree.
Can I submit unofficial transcripts with my application?
Yes, you can submit unofficial transcripts for the application process, however, you would be required to submit final official transcripts by the end of your first semester in the program.
Do you offer application fee waivers?
Application fee waivers are only granted to students who have participated in one of the programs listed on the Application Fee Waiver form. This form should be completed and submitted to the Office of Admissions.
Do you offer funding opportunities?
Any applicant who wishes to be considered for funding will be considered during application evaluation. Department Funding is offered in the form of a Graduate Assistantship. The typical graduate assistantship requires 20 hours of work per week as a TA teaching undergraduate Physics labs. The current compensation for assistantships includes a tuition waiver (excluding fees) and an annual stipend of $28,832. Assistantships are only available to PhD students.
What are the English proficiency requirements for International applicants?
The university requires that all International graduate applicants demonstrate proficiency in the English language. The minimum requirements for university admission can be found on the International Graduate Academic Requirements page. There are additional English proficiency requirements for students who wish to be considered for a Graduate Assistantship. Applicants must provide TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test scores. Specific score requirements can be found on the International Teaching Assistant Handbook page.
What is my U-Number and where can I find it?
Your USF University ID Number, sometimes referred to as your U Number or your UID, is a 9-character number starting with the letter “U” that identifies you and your student record. You will need this number to interact with various campus offices. It’s sent to you in an email 24-48 hours after you apply.
