Career Modules

Our department has created a series of career planning steps (or "Career Modules") that are integrated into various courses required of our undergraduate majors in Sociology or Interdisciplinary Social Sciences.  These Career Modules are designed to provide students with the guidance and resources they need to enter the workforce or graduate school.

In Introduction to Sociology (SYG 2000) and Introduction to Social Sciences (ISS 3010), the goal of the Career Module is to introduce students to a variety of careers that can be pursued with an undergraduate degree in the social sciences, and to introduce students (majors and non-majors) to the relevancy of the ssocial sciences to a variety of careers across academic disciplines. Students completing this Career Module will want to visit the website of The American Sociological Association. 

In Research Methods (SYA 3300 or ISS 3300), the goal of the Career Module is to help students recognize how social science research skills are applicable to various employment settings.

In Classical Theory (SYA 3110), the goal of the Career Module is to help students prepare for the tasks they will need to complete before or during their senior year so they can make a successful transition from college to a professional career and/or graduate school. Students will be encouraged to think about whether they envision going to graduate school or entering the workforce immediately after graduation.

In Senior Seminar (SYA 4935 or ISS 4935), the goal of the Career Module is to prepare for the future whether it be a professional career or graduate school.
