Programs Overview
The USF Department of World Languages offers graduate degree programs and concurrent graduate degree programs in the areas listed below. Please visit the side navigation for more information about each program as well as certificate options.
Programs:
- Linguistics and Applied Language Studies (LALS) Ph.D.
- Linguistics: English as a Second Language M.A.
- French M.A.
- Spanish M.A.
Concurrent Programs:
We offer two three-year concurrent MA programs with nine shared credit hours. The Linguistics: English as a Second Language M.A. program can be combined with the French or Spanish M.A. program. Likewise, the French and Spanish M.A. programs can each be combined with the Linguistics program. Applicants apply to one program. Once admitted and pursuing that program, they then petition to add the second program, ideally during the first semester.
Note: the concurrent program options are listed in the graduate catalog in two places, but the combined programs are the same. They appear separately in the catalog depending on whether the initial admitting program is Linguistics or one of the two language programs. Listed below are the concurrent degree programs:
French & Linguistics M.A. Degrees:
- French, M.A. and Linguistics: English as a Second Language, M.A. or
- Linguistics: English as a Second Language, M.A and French, M.A.
Spanish & Lingustics M.A. Degrees:
- Spanish, M.A. and Linguistics: English as a Second Language, M.A. or
- Linguistics: English as a Second Language, M.A and Spanish, M.A.
