Overview
The Zimmerman School at the University of South Florida – the fastest rising university
in the nation (U.S. News & World Report, 2021) – is a leader in advertising and mass
communications education. Working alongside scholars and professionals in the classroom
and practitioners in the field, Zimmerman School students receive hands-on training
and gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects
of mass communications.
The Zimmerman School offers innovative undergraduate programs in integrated public
relations and advertising, multimedia news, and video production. At the graduate
level, we offer a Master of Science degree in advertising with a focus on analytics
and a Master of Arts degree in mass communications with specializations in strategic
communication management and media studies.
Our students train in a state-of-the-art virtual production studio, produce award-winning
broadcast news shows that air on the local PBS affiliate during the school year, and
direct a student-run advertising and public relations agency that represents local
and global clients. Zimmerman School graduate students conduct research and prepare
professional projects that enhance their professional expertise and prepare them for
continued graduate study.
The Zimmerman School’s location in Tampa, Florida – the 13th largest media market
in the United States – offers tremendous opportunities for internships and career
advancement in a diverse and thriving community near a booming business and technology
corridor. Zimmerman School students participate annually in more than 100 internships in
Tampa Bay and beyond. On campus, student clubs and associations, including the Walter
E. Griscti Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America, the Ad Club, and
student chapters of the Florida Public Relations Association and the Radio Television
Digital News Association provide opportunities to network with professionals in business,
non-profit, and government organizations.
