Mariel graduated from Smith College with a B.A. in Studio Art in 2016 and is pursuing an M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction with a concentration in College Student Affairs (CSA) from the University of South Florida. She has previous experience assisting students with career exploration, graduate programming, financial literacy, and internship programming in the non-profit sector as well as in higher education.
Mariel has worked at the University of South Florida as an Academic Program Specialist for The Zimmerman School, an Earn to Learn FL Near Peer Success Coach for AmeriCorps, and an Internship Coordinator for Junior Achievement of South Florida. Mariel is a new Z School advising team member but has worked at the University of South Florida since February 2022. She is committed to furthering and developing her skills as a student affairs professional to support and assist students in higher education. In her spare time, Mariel can be found reading, trying out new recipes, painting, listening to music, and planning her next adventure.

Ostin Justice-Young

Ostin graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2021 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Two weeks later, Ostin enrolled in his Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Leadership & Management. He has previous experience in academic Advising, facilitating leadership development workshops, supervising/advising student-led programs, and serving as an Orientation Leader during his undergraduate experience.
Ostin has worked at Florida Gulf Coast University as a Graduate Assistant for Leadership Development for the Multicultural & Leadership Development Center, and most recently, served as a Learner Services Advisor at Ultimate Medical Academy. Ostin is a strong advocate for creating a safe space and sense of belonging for all students. As a life-long learner, his goal is to continue learning different approaches to leave an impact that champions students’ success. His mantra in life is tough situations don’t last but a tough person does. He enjoys dancing, playing baseball, spending quality time with family and friends, and traveling.

Chloe Hartman

Chloe graduated from the University of South Florida with a B.S. in Social Science Education in 2022, and recently completed a graduate certificate in Academic Advising also from USF. She has experience as a classroom teacher, coordinating efforts for on-campus events for students, managing marketing and communications tasks, and assisting graduate students with administrative needs and advising. Chloe has worked for USF since 2019 – initially in a student position at the Marshall Student Center in various roles, and then later as an Academic Program Specialist for the USF School of Information. She is a new Academic Advisor excited and committed to student success! She looks forward to growing professionally as she continues to work closely with students in higher education. Outside of work, Chloe is enthusiastic about house plants, baking, spending her Saturday mornings at thrift stores, hanging out with her husband and dog, and traveling to visit family outside of Florida.

DROP-IN ADVISING
We offer in-person and virtual drop-in advising during registration periods and the first week of each semester. Please note, drop-in advising means you will sign in on Archivum and wait in an online queue for a 15-minute drop-in advising session. It is same day only (not scheduled in advance) and offered on a “first-come/first-served” basis.
